About

The Leimert Park Mutual Aid Organizing Committee (LP-MAOC) is an autonomous, Black-led solidarity network created by residents of the community to resist gentrification. In contrast to the current market-based economic system, which is predicated on consumption, exploitation, greed, and the private ownership of the means of production, we believe mutual aid and solidarity can help us build cooperative, intersectional, and sustainable communities. We look to the traditions of Black mutual aid societies and contemporary autonomous mutual aid collectives for inspiration in our struggle against gentrification, racism, state-sanctioned violence, and other forms of oppression. There are a number of organizing projects we plan to initiate as the Leimert Park Mutual Aid Organizing Committee:

  • Free Store
  • Food share
  • Emergency preparedness
  • Knowledge/Skillshare
  • Medic training
  • Service exchanges

Contact us if you live in or around Leimert Park and would like to support one of these projects or if you have another idea you’re interested in organizing to build community power.
